Default Will only start by putting gas in the plugs

Searched forums and did not find anything. I am trying to start my car after it has setup for a couple of years. I installed a new carb"zenith 2" just before I put it up. I did not crank it though. It has fresh gas, sparking.i tried cranking for a few secs and flooded it . I put some gas in the vacuum hole on the intake and it fired up and run great. Adjusted carb and went to sleep. Tried to crank it today and nothing. There is plenty of pull through the vacuum hole.(I do plug it before I run it).any thoughts? Why would it not pull the gas up without priming it?
