Here is a photo of a Mercury turn signal unit in a 48 Ford. I took the picture at the 2013 Tahoe Grand National meet. As I recall, the owner stated that he had to shorten the column as the Mercury is a little longer.

I've never seen one of them before, even in a Mercury. I'll have to keep an eye out now. I know the Lincolns had turn signals, at lease as an option, and the column looks similar to that. Neat stuff.
