One thing I have learned about corn head grease, In summer a hot day will make it "loose" enough to leak out of the gun, or a spare tube so keep it in a plastic bag

Corn head grease for the steering box too.

Just do not put that gl-5 oil in your transmission. NAPA can order some gl-4 for you.

The JT6 grease is just common grease you use in your grease gun. It should be found anywhere that sells oils. I grease my farm equipment, Bobcat, loader tractor, mowers, ect... with it all the time.

I do know about not putting GL5 in the transmission. Back when I worked in industry we had equipment with brass gears we were not supposed to use GL5. Seems you should not use it in ModeT truck rear end either.

True, NAPA can order, at an exorbitant price from an outfit I never heard of. Why would GL4 be more expensive than GL5 when GL4 is missing the Sulphur additive? Two quarts would be well over$100. I'll keep looking.

Many 8N ford owners use it in the steering box as well when the box leaks.
I am going to put it in the clam shell in several sessions as I about wore out my arm pumping today. Had an air powered gun which went bad, a battery powered one is the way to go now I guess.

Eastern TN Tom, I also don’t know why 90w gl-4 gear oil is so expensive. OReillys has 140 gl-4 for a much more reasonable price.

Something is not right with that price. Oddly, I can't seem to find the gallon size I normally order. I did find a 5 gallon can of CRC/Sta-Lube 85W-90 for $190.

I mentioned Rural King to my wife the other day, I think I have seen it there. It is a ways away but get that direction occasionally We do have an O'Rielly's here which I usually avoid due to lack of automotive background of the counter people. I will check however. A half hour trip.

Walmart can be tricky. What they sell on line may not be what they sell in stores. When you do a search, make sure it lists it as in stock at the store you're going to. They are pretty good about keeping accurate inventory.

The ride in a car with properly lubricated springs and properly working and adjusted shock absorbers is much different.
If you look at your springs and there is red dust or red grunge coming out of them they are not properly lubricated.
previous greasing with chassis grease clogs the built in passages preventing lubrication from reaching the tips of the leaves.
1941 Mercury all had spring covers.
You are spot on with your advice in regard to NOT using grease in the springs.
When I had finally used up my five-gallon pail of Ford Spring lubricant, I switched to SDTP oil treatment. Nearly the same consistency as the Ford Lubricant and just as easy to install.

SDTP - Is this a typo? I still have not figured out the thread in the spring centerbolt, but I have not exausted the possibilities either.
