Remove the left tail light bracket from fender. Apply a wide piece of masking tape to cover mounting holes and extend over to the outer fender edge. Mark or through pierce the location of 1 or 2 of the through mounting holes on the tape. Using a carpenters tape measure the distance of a hole or holes from the side edge and bottom edge of the fender and record on the tape. Go to the right fender and apply tape at approximately the same location as the left fender. Using the tape measure locate the hole dimensions recorded on the left fender and install right bracket mounting holes.

I picked up a right hand taillight bracket at a swap meet. Is there any way to tell whether it's original or repop? I do see a "R" stamped on it but I don't see a part number.

Maybe at some point I'll get a reproduction or one in relic condition and try it out.
Now you have the opportunity to mount some historic or humorous plate on the left side!
