Yes Patrick, I can hear them rattle for sure. A little too much for my liking.That's what started me down this road.

IMO, valves should rattle when the engine is cold and the noise reduce as it warms up till they are almost silent when it is hot (and I do mean hot). I set the modern stainless exhaust valves at 0.022". They are very noisy at startup but OK when hot.
I'd rather hear the valves than have to replace a burnt one.

Mine don't change after the engine runs for a while. I don't run a thermostat and live in a cool climate (East Coast Canada) so I don't think the engine ever gets really hot. I'll check with a temp gauge next time I run it.
