I installed a new brake switch in my l950 this summer. Go it from NAPA and it came with teflon tape already on the threads in the box. I used it..........

Yep - I don't see any reason to NOT use Teflon/PTFE thread on a 1/8 NPT brake light switch. It also acts as an "anti-seize" if you need to remove it later on.

I would add just be mindful when wrapping the nipple so it doesn't cover the hole.

DOT3 is what I am using. Not sure if that is silicone.

All Teflon tape is not created equal, the cheap stuff (usually blue cover found in the hardware store is junk. Buy a roll of good Teflon tape and it will last a long time. The biggest issue with tape is too much especially on the first thread. Pipe sealant paste is probably even better. It takes literally a small smear all the way around to help the seal. Never put stainless NPT fittings together with out a sealant/ lubricant. They will gall and basically cold weld together, never to come apart again. Sealing NPT threads is a bit like motor oil discussions in some circles. |
