Put a fuse kit for the starter switch buss connection terminal on there and pull the fuse out to disconnect. It may not be original but the fuse will certainly protect the cars wiring from eventual short circuits. A person could also wire it for an aircraft type resetable push pull type circuit breaker of the correct system amperage rating. This would make it easier to pull the breaker button and open the circuit for longer storage. A person would have to get creative to mount and protect it but it could be done pretty easy.

The fuse kit is less expensive than the circuit breaker for sure but either one is less expensive than a burned up car or even a burned up garage where the car may be stored.

I keep thinking I'm on the Model A Forum! Later cars already have either fuses or circuit breakers but a CDM type Klixon breaker might work as a shut off if close to the solenoid connection to the battery.

I leave a cable slightly loose and pull it off battery when not using. I also forget to do so and my vehicles doesn't drain the battery with a amp leak/short.

While it's off put a amp meter between the battery and either disconnected lead. There should be no reading less you have a electronic clock or a short.

Never a bad idea to have a disconnect for many reasons though.

If you want the maximum safety with a total system cut off switch, it should be mounted as close to the battery as possible and in the GROUND strap.
NEVER IN THE HOT LEAD.
With other systems the main cable is left hot with the switch off.

There are several other manufacturers of heavy duty switches similar to the Cole Hersee one. They can be mounted in the center cross member just ahead of the driver seat with the shaft up through the floor for easy access.
Done right the floor mat will cover the handle yet it will still be easy to access.
