Turned out to be the condenser in the distributor. Yeah.

Did you try starting it in neutral? Converting from manual to automatic....wonder if there was a safety switch on the clutch pedal.....

My car has an automatic and I replaced the neutral safety switch for the one that requires it to be in Park to start.
