If my cars had a clamp like Bob's I would just bend it up till I changed things out and then bend it back down.

The cable is an anti-theft design, but I believe that thew clamp's purpose is to keep the cable from contacting the spark control rod.
Brent, I can change a distributor faster than you can change the points / condenser. You would also have to time the ignition. Changing the distributor does not require timing the ignition. Enough said. I rest my case!

That would work, except for the fact that the original clamp had both halves secured by the #8 head nut.
