I used to have a club coupe and liked it, its pretty rare now. Sold it for $600 about 10 years ago, bad move.
I think the Victoria hardtop is the nicest looking. Had a glasstop once and they get too hot in the summer so I would go with a regular Vicky or a convertible.

To answer scicala, in Australia, Canada and New Zealand, we never received this new OHV Motor, Ball Joint Front Suspension or new longer Frame. If you look closely at an Australian 54 Ford, the front wheel is not totally centralised in the wheel cut-out as the redesigned front fenders for the 54 Fords were designed for the longer wheelbase. The extra length wheelbase was only half an inch, so they got away with it.

Mercman,
Thanks very much for that information. Very helpful. I've always wondered about those details. I've seen '54 Canadian Fords before, but never looked underneath one. Sal |

Wow, lots of cool choices. Any suggestions on where to see a gathering of these in person?

There is a member of either that club or the Crown Victoria Club that has a museum of sorts with almost every model of 54 Ford produced. I don't think it's on the web nywhere

![]() Here is a closeup comparison to show the half inch difference in the wheelbase of the Canadian based 54 Fords that retained the earlier chassis and the USA based 54 Fords with the new chassis. If you look at the Black 54 Ford from USA, you will see that the wheel is perfectly centralised. Now compare it to the Tan 54 Ford from Australia that has the old carryover chassis. You will see a larger gap at the front than at the rear, because of the shorter chassis. The Black Ford has later 55/56 Wheel Covers fitted. Also notice that in Australia, the centres of these hubcaps were painted Black, while in the USA, they were painted Red. |

I see the Australian '54 Ford also has the correct flathead V8 emblem on the fender, instead of the Y-Block version emblem.

Thanks for the pointer to 1954ford.com. Good resource. Looks like their gathering will be in Memphis in September this year.

I believe the national Crown Victoria club includes '54 Fords too because of the '54 glass top Crestline Victoria.

The CVA includes 54-56 Ford cars and trucks as well as their Canadian counterparts

![]() This is the only model 54 Ford that was offered in Australia, apart from the Mainline Ute. Notice that they used the earlier model's Dash. Ford Australia carried over the 239 CID Flathead complete with three speed manual transmission. The only choice that we got was what colour we wanted. That Coupe in my previous Post would have been converted to RHD. Automatic Transmission was not offered in Australia until late in the 1956 model year. |

Thanks for all of this information. I find it all very interesting. That is interesting how they used the '52-'53 type dash board in '54. So it was only the Customline level 4 door sedan and Mainline Ute available. Wonder why they never imported hard tops ect. to Australia ?

Ford Australia was not the only car company that thought that we only wanted "moredoor" sedans. GMH and Chrysler thought the same way. You guys in the USA don't realise how lucky you are with the great selection that was on offer. Check out these Links to the original Sales Brochures on the two 54 Ford offerings.

After looking at both of these brochures I think it's safe to say a six cylinder engine wasn't available, since it was never mentioned. All car pictures had a V8 emblem on the fenders too. Thanks again Mercman.
