Oh the good old CB days! Used one a lot, and then cell phones come along.

I was thinking recently, wondering if today's cell phone obsession will be like the CB radio fad of the 1970s. Everybody had to have a cb in their vehicle. And a handle. Maybe a big ole whip antenna. Breaker 1-9, gotta stop for a ten one hundred. Suddenly that was all gone. Long range, private channel FM radios took over for farm business type communication although I never got into that. I went straight from CB to cell phone. And now GRS two way (no license) radio for short range communication around the farm.

My number was 19Q2019 It was wonderful to have in the medical field when we made house calls. Limited to 5 watts transmitting power but I knew guys that hopped them up to over 100 watts. I remember getting a warning ticket once for "non-essential use" from the FCC. Only a warning, no fine or license cancelation though.

They used to have a van going round to track radio & TV and hence cross check for valid license for these things.

I got pinged in the early 80's for my TV, by the van with that hoop thing on the roof doing the neighbourhood. I got off with a compliance warning though. Not long after they did away with them anyway.

The last I knew Nebraska still issued car license plates with short wave license numbers on them. You don't see them very often.

And mine was KFN1540. By the time I received the physical copy the law was changed. I think I may be the last sucker who actually paid for a CB license. Now I have one for my business band and an operator license for my marine VHF. I'm 75 and was never checked till I was stopped by the Coast Guard. The Coastie asked if I had a license and was shocked when I said yes. We had a good laugh over that.
