Don't go cheap on your Jack Stands. I have 3 sets, 3-Ton, 4-Ton, and 6-Ton. While I don't need a 6-Ton jack, I got this set for the height that I needed to suspend the rear from the frame while I had the rear axle out. The 3-Ton are sufficient to support the front under the axle.

All the other warnings by Henry and others need to be emphasized greatly.

Removing Old Cast Iron ratchet stands from rear of an XKE, as I let it down, the "T" shaped top of a front one BROKE off & punched a HOLE in the Alujimum oil pan!

Are the ratings on axle stands per stand or per pair? They don't say in the adverts, they just say 3 ton, 6 ton or whatever. I assume per pair, but?
I always wondered about that.

Usually always per stand ...... and for liability, in the U.S., many have a professional engineer design safety factor of at least (2).

Many years ago we had left a car in the shop on jack stands I was totally in shock the next morning when they had let go and the car was on the ground . Thankfully the car was one of mine and not a customer car nor was anyone working on it or under it .. it could have been deadly. I had thrown all of the garbage stands out several,months before,but a new guy had found them in a scrap bin and with out asking out them under a car. We were all blessed for no personal damage . Be smart buy the best you can afford your life does depend on them.

Having had a close call with a bumper jack when I was young, I NEVER support a car with only one jack stand or one hydraulic jack. I either use two jack stands or a combination of a jack stand and hydraulic jack both supporting the same point. It gets a little crowded under the car at times using two means of support but my life is certainly worth the inconvenience.
