A thinner adapter plate should take up any input problems. There is bound to be someone on the web that has done this before. There are plenty of entries for T5s on the HAMB and on here plus all the other sites available. Your basically looking to use the same or similar clutch release set up that the 52 & 53 cars came with and I'm sure it's been done before. the Ford shoe boxes up through the 52 & 53 Mainline/Crestline all use a similar clutch release system. The 52 & 53 Mercs are in the same grouping too.

I have a transmission number 1352-010 that has a 7 1/8" input shaft from the front of the transmission case. It came from an early S10 V6. You have to be careful reading the tape so far from the shaft.

pics are not the best the first one is from the front of the case with the nose cone gone and the number 2 is sitting down on something flat

If you want any rational information and help sorting this out, you first need to send some carefully thought-out pictures. You also need to start explaining things in complete, comprehensive sentences. ACCURATE measurements are an absolute must. Right now, we ain't got a clue WHAT you have, nor what length input shaft you THINK you need. How many splines are on the T5 input shaft you have? How many teeth on it's gear?
Also, you must keep in mind that you can't just change input shafts without considering the TOOTH COUNT. There are several different gear sets and gear counts available in the various T5s. Also, have you considered the diameter of the big hole in the center of your bellhousing? Does it's diameter match with your bearing retainer, and/or your plate adapter? Do you have bucket seats, or a bench seat? It makes a difference with the location of the shifter on the tailshaft housing. This alone may determine whether the S-10 trans is a wise choice for your application. TOO many guys go and buy an S-10 trans 'cuz they've "heard" that that's "THE" trans to put in a hot rod, not knowing WHY that may (or may NOT) be a wise choice, including gearset ratios. This can all be figured-out......IF you approach it slowly, and with complete understanding of what you have to start with. JSeery and I know these T5s pretty well, and will help you.......if you explain ALL of the details slowly and systematically. DD |

Well, it works with a Ford T5! MDL sells the kit MD 401-2113 So, would guess you need a 83-93 Ford V8 T-5 length input shaft.

I think the stock throw bearing works OK, The photo above with the adapter bolted to it looks like the adapter I made for Richard. However he used agt late chevy box with the Ford bell housing. BTW converting the taleshaft to a different shifter Is VERY expensive.

I would never use an S-10 T-5, very poor choice for the long run. The trans we used was a 92 chevy unit, this has the Ford bolt pattern. Trans was installed in a 53 Hard top. Not sure about the shift lever, but when I drove it the lever was in a good place. I'm building a 27 'T track roadster with an 87 Mustamg trans using the same adapter, but the shift lever is too far back. However changing it will cost more than the trans did. Everything I do is based on the cost of doing it.

I'm a Ford T5 guy myself, for many reasons, but in this case he already has the transmission and the adapter that he is attempting to use. It is also the better of the S10 gear ratios. If all it needs is a new input shaft and possible tail shaft swap, it shouldn't be too big a deal. The forward shift pisition tail shaft is the one everyone is after, so should be able to pick up a rear position one for next to nothing and sell what he has for a good price.
