" If its part of an estate or mixed in a family dispute does the seller even have a legal right to be selling it? "

It is my understanding This (above) is the scenario of the 100k remains of the towncar in NY....

"Whenever I find a deal like this I put a down payment (that won't hurt too much to lose) and have them (the seller) apply for a lost title or duplicate as the case may be. That way your not trying to run the seller down to get any paper work signed that the DMV needs. I've walked away from some super deals when the seller wouldn't do this. If they can't take the time they don't want to sell it very bad, but it's an entirely different thing if you are getting it for parts"

Time is money, for a seller asking 2.5k it isn't worth it to jump thru hoops, and pay associated fees, some one will buy it.....

Good advice, you would hate to spend money on it and try to title it using the numbers available on the car and find out it was stolen or the numbers have been used on another car.

Once you are sure it's a good buy,
