Flathead, very good catch! The upper end of that rod is a total disaster (prior to it snapping)!!!!!

Very unfortunate, sorry to hear the news. Not that I'm an expert, but, as others have said, I've never heard of this happening before. It sucks!

May be worth your time getting some NOS French ones from Vern Tardell or SF Flathead. If it happened to one, others may be ready to let loose too...

Never use Melling oil pumps, too much trouble with them in the past. Maybe they've fixed them, ut I use the originals. PS the rebuild kits are from Mellings as well. Just my opinion,.

The block is toast. The conrod blew a hole in it and it's no good.

If the hole is in a cylinder wall, a sleeve may fix it.

Unfortunately, the hole is in the crank area. When I heard the terrible sound, I shut the car off and took a look underneath. What I saw was a flow of anti freeze and oil. If anyone want the block as it sits, they can have it for free.
It still has everything in it.
