Re: Rattling fuel pump pushrod tube
Man, I've been building flat heads for 65 years and never seen one like that. I would like to see the inside of that engine. Walt

Re: Rattling fuel pump pushrod tube
I have now opened the manifold. The tube is not loose. So its not that making sounds. Look at the pictures: There are two of theese kind of steel plate brackets. What do they do? They are just push fitted at both ends on the (oil) tube running in the centre bottom of valve house. They could have relocated a bit. But wherent really loose... Could it be fuel rod being just a bit too short?
Anyone have a guess as to what is making this discrete, inconsistant klinging rattle at idle??

Re: Rattling fuel pump pushrod tube
Those appear to be splash shields, they buffer the splash from the crankcase through the valve chest drainage holes.

Re: Rattling fuel pump pushrod tube
Somehow they almost look like the baffles for the old G series six. Clean them up and take a picture of it again. I wonder if they were hitting a valve lifter or valve stem.....

It would make sense if one of them had become loose. Could easily be the sound I heard. Anyone have had that experience?
