Pulsating brakes is what got me started down this road.

I had excessive axle end play and was attempting to fix that. Tore rear end completely down, replaced ring and pinion gears (broken tooth on ring gear) and replaced one axle. It bought a used axle but in very good shape sold to me by a local, well respected guy who deals in used Model A parts.

Put new bearings and double race in banjo where the drive line goes through. New drum also got new bearings etc.

One drum showed "rubbing" inside against the face (backside of the lugs). This is the drum I replaced with new. I took the brake assemblies off as a unit so no brake work was done. The brake shoes show little to no wear.
I disagree tha "no brake work was done". The brake drum is part of the brake system. You stated that you replaced a drum (probably 11.060 diameter) with one that was probably 11.000 in diameter. This is probably your problem. Be sure to find a shop with the tools and knowledge to do the job (ask here or at a local club). There have been horror stories posted about what happens when a shop doesn't know what they are doing. What about the shop that installed the drums on the hubs, they should be able to turn them?

It would cost more in the short run, but in line with what Charlie Stephens is saying, I'd ship them off to a Model A supplier who does shop work and knows exactly what they're doing.

I took the drum to a local Auto parts store who deals in antique auto parts after I discovered they routinely turn these hubs. I had forgotten about them (they are a little pricey) but was reminded so they got the work. Should get it back in a couple of days.

Wouldn't the shoes be "centered" when the old drum was removed?

Is "Arching" the shoes the method used to "center the shoes"?

No, arcing the shoe fits the shoe to the drum for maximum contact.
The shoes still need to be centered with the axle.

New drum is turned and installed/reassembled. The rear end is sound-less which is good but I am unhappy with the "look" of the new drum when compared to the other installed drum.
I will get pictures tomorrow and show you what I mean. The 2 drums are designed differently and the new design will allow dirt etc to easily enter the drum and brake area. No sir I do no like it at all.
Anyone else have this experience?
