Well I'd say that the horn ring is suppling the ground. Everything up to the horn ring is a complete ground open circuit. Push the horn ring, complete the circuit and the horn blows. Put your arm on the window, especially sweaty, and your're suppling a complete circuit, thus a shock. A jumper wire from the ring to ground should blow the horn. Happens on my '41 Ford S/R, with stock column, all the time

Our 49 does the same thing , kind of like a static shock but stronger. One hand on the shifter and one on the tooter , buzzzzzz. Great thrill for the man at the testing station when he gives it its safety check every 6 months.
Will follow above advice to try to rectify this unwanted Buzzzzzz. |

And to think all these years I thought it was a built in feature to keep children from blowing the horn while playing in Grandpa's car.

What I find amusing is how many of you must drive around honking the horn. I could go for years and not even know if mine worked or not, lol.

What's missing is the resister wire on the horn relay. A 16 ohm 7" nichrome wire is attached across the horn relay between the two external tabs on the relay. The shock comes when the horn button is released. This wire is never included on after market harnesses.

Just so I understand, the register wire should run from the S to the H terminals or S to the B terminal? ![]() Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I get the same thing in my 47... but it is only a mild shock and only when I use the outer push ring on the horn... if I use the center button no shock.. I think it is me doing the extra grounding (because of course, the horn is an open circuit and when you push the button you close the circuit)
