35....yes having the original rebuilt, but after spending all this money I would like to have a backup just in case. That's why I would buy a new Bendix and try on the base starter.

Mike, the original style bendix's that most any vendor sells are good. Usually you will find two versions, US made and Foreign made. As long as they are the original style they are good in either version. We sell both. One is $38.00 and the other $29.95.

Any good NAPA clerk can find the right part without you having the number.

Seery.....have you used their Bendix ? I'm buying one just to have it.
I put in the old starter and it started right up. $220 for c & g starter.......3 solenoids at $ 20 each.....$10 for new battery cable. $ 290 spent plus all the hours wasted........do you think C & G offered anything back ? He inferred it was my installation fault ! Very disappointing to say the least. >This is the kind of stuff that gives these guys a bad name. They had my money and could not give a damn ! I hate to rant about this, but it just isn't right to those who love this hobby. Mike |

No, I have not used VanPelt's Bendix, but based on his reputation I would assume it is the best available. And if you ever had any questions, he is on the Barn daily!

Thanks John. Did not get to it yesterday but will today. I want to get my '40 back on the road ! This is a grand old hobby and I'm still stung by what I bought and the mess it caused and the related costs all for nothing !
The one thing I'm trying to figure out is how install the drive over the slotted key !! Thx....Mike |

you take the key out, slide the drive over the shaft, then put the key in, then the end drive part, then bolt and lock plate, always use new lock plates, and new bolts if the threads show any wear or looseness

Kurt....thx....I was just afraid of taking out the bolts in the 2 spring areas and have the thing tough to put back together. Never worked on a starter before, but I sure have recently ! A friend of mine gave me a motor and I bought a new Bendix just to have a spare.
I was able to have the original starter fixed and I installed it and it fired right up. Thx again....Mike |
