Default model A font

Want font for cutting stencils for sandblasting ford and model A logos on wind wing glass.

The ford in the oval seems easy to get, but is there a correct model A font?

Anyone have pic/s or a URL to any?

Be careful. Ford has a copyright on the script and anything associated with Ford Motor Company, and it is probably international.

Do a web search for fordscript.ttf and you should find one.

There is no correct "Model A Font" to my knowledge. The Ford script itself was derived from C.H. Wills' printing set he used to print business cards as a way of making money as a teenager.

If you didn't know, C.H. Wills was one of Ford's early engineers and they needed a company logo. Wills went to his parents home and dug out his old printing set, the rest is history.

When we interviewed Ford Motor company regarding the use of logos etc. They have it all protected and will go after anyone that "sells" the part with their name or anything else that is protected. It is due to liability problems rather than making a profit. If the wind wing has Ford's logo, and causes injury to someone who then sues Ford because it is their part they need to be protected. This came out of someone making Mustang suspension parts and putting the Ford name and logo on them, a failure and a law suit, so Ford had to implement a policy that blankets all the products they made. And here we are.

Yes they will, and they have. It is why suppliers can't use Ford parts numbers in their catalogs or put the Ford script on repro parts without getting a license from Ford. Copyright and trademark law requires a holder to defend the mark or they can lose their copyright. I hadn't heard the liability argument before, but that makes sense too.

There is a local guy who had "Ford" in his business name, but has been nervous about it for a few years and seems to be phasing it out for fear of retribution from Ford. Another local company that works on VWs was restrained from using VW in his company name. A little coffee company in Colorado tried to call themselves Federal Espresso and were enjoined by FedEx. Corporations take this very seriously.
