Default Why no Klaxons?

Anybody have a good story as to why Ford never had a Klaxon made horn for the A? Were they not the big horn maker in the country at the time?

Some of us have taken it upon ourselves to right that wrong:

To paraphrase a song, "Here's to Daddy's Klaxon ...", found in his junk box and worked much better than my Sparton, which resisted multiple attempts to fix. So, I figured, what the heck?

I can't remember where I heard it,.. Any of you ole Navy troops Know?.

I don't know if they were Klaxons, but they definitely used ahooga horns to signal submerge on subs. I remember as a kid once when we were visiting Grandma's and Dad announced our arrival by hitting the button for the ahooga he had installed on our Nash. Uncle Dick, who was sleeping on the front porch swing and who had served on a sub in WWII, just about went through the ceiling. He was visibly shaken and asked Dad to never do that again. Here's Uncle Dick (dark hair in center front) on his sub, USS Shad, in the south Pacific. He was my favorite uncle--taught me how to fish. In his dementia ridden final days, he was back on the sub, shouting for his brother to get their guns because "they're coming through the door." I hope no one minds a bit of off-topic honoring of a sailor's memory.

Thanks for the pic. of those brave men, It must have been a tough life on a submarine during WW-2.
I'll bet Your uncle Murphy was a true Sailor and a Patroit.

I do remember watching all those Victory at Sea films back in the 60s and 70s and hearing that "Ahooga horn" when they went to their battle station's or a dive warning sound on a sub.

I just found it, It was called a H9 type 1942 and was called a Klaxon.

Thanks to Uncle Dick for his service. One thing that always amazes me about the photos of that area is that there we no fat or overweight people. Not just service personnel, but civilians, too. I think the depression and the war had a bit ot do with that.

I once owned a 24 volt "Diving Klaxon". It came off a WW2 sub that was being refitted at Pearl Harbor in 1959. The sub and others, were being given to some South American Country.

I have a Klaxon on one of my cars. It is so loud that I am careful not to scare people with it. Strong even engine at idle speed.

To answer the OP, Ol'Hank was to cheap to pay for the real deal and settled for the cheap knock-off elecro-mechanical devices.

GW

Same kind of thing with Bendix stuff.
