Re: steering box
You might try Lares Corp. they do that sort of thing.
https://www.larescorp.com/ Farther away is Red Head. They’re local to me and well thought of. https://redheadsteeringgears.com/sho...caAoNVEALw_wcB In either case, I’d call. Sometimes the less popular stuff doesn’t make it onto the web site. |

Re: steering box
I believe that Ford sold the worm and shaft as one item. We have the worm available by itself and, in some cases, we have the worm and shaft as well. There was a change of some sort in the 1956 Ford steering boxes….not sure when it occurred, but we list two worms for 56. The early version was the AD-3524 and the latter version was the B7A-3524. We’re not at the shop to check stock until Tuesday but I think we have both in stock. Here’s the link to our website page on the steering box

Re: steering box
A change between the 2 sector and 3 sector steering box. Mid 56, and Ford being Ford, happened when they ran out of old parts and went to new ones. Same with the Thunderbirds with the adjustable column.
Now that I’ve said that, I have no clue how to tell one from the other, or if you can externally. But I’m sure someone here knows. |

IF, the original steering boxes in full-sized '55/'57 Fords look the same on top as these '55 and '57 T-Bird examples... the earlier ones have a 6 pointed star washer/nut(?) on top, the later ones don't. And there's slightly less space between the dome and bolt heads, also no cover on the middle adjusting screw. . Last edited by dmsfrr; 05-28-2024 at 09:27 PM. |

Usually, FORD of CANADA ran one production year behind US (assembly) so I would hate to give you incorrect info and possibly start an INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT. Maybe try here - https://canadianrodder.com/forum/ind...ussion-chat.2/

There were two US 1954 boxes and two US 1955 boxes. Attached (if it shows large enough to read) is the PARTS LIST for the input shaft and worm -

Re: steering box
If you can take the unit apart, you’ll be able to confirm the sector roller (2 or 3 lobes) and the specific worm ( a 2 or 3 digit number stamped into the end of the worm). That’s going to be the most reliable way to ID what you have.

Re: steering box
A lot of details are dropped from the CHASSIS and MASTER PARTS CATALOG as time goes by as many parts are discontinued and/or replaced by later issue.
One would need a period correct (year) PARTS MANUAL to see what was exactly available from year to year. I have a 1959 MPC that does not even give the PN on a 54 box assembly. |

Re: steering box
That was common with the Ford parts procedures. If something was superseded, only the available part was listed in later catalogs. It's nice to have the 1959 version since it was the latest revision but a person ends up needing the individual year model catalogs as well. For my mid century Mercury cars I ended up with all the books from 1949 through 1953 in order to verify parts and part replacements.
