Tips or a product that will clean radiator hoses?
I have some NOS 21A radiator hoses that I would like to use. They are dirty from lying around all these years. I tried using Dawn dish soap to clean them up, but it doesn't seem to work.
Anyone have any tips/products that they've used to get radiator hoses black again? |

Tim, get a tube of Lanolin Cream, Walmart has it. It will help
keep rubber pliable and looking good... l

I had very good results cleaning/restoring my Drake '40 running board rubber that had collected dust for over 30 years with Simple Green. They came out looking like new.

Used brake fluid for running boards.

I used Yuengling Lager. After I drank a dozen or so of them, my old hoses looked great. I didn't even have to touch them. An old friend of mine introduced me this trick years ago. Works on anything, give it try.

Way to close for brake fluid to be to painted surfaces for my comfort level.

As mentioned, lanolin, and another altenative, castor oil, after cleaning. No reproductions exist for F2-3 rear axle bump stops, so I made some. After shaping and smoothing, I gave these a rub down with castor oil. Not perfect, but presentable. Picture is deceptive, side by side, the “made” stops match the originals. Wasn’t able to duplicate part number on mounting surface.

I have used Wesley's Whitewall cleaner for my running boards and my Blackwall tires as well and it cleans well and the rubber looks like new. It probably would work on radiator hoses as well.

Lots of products listed here. I always use Urethane or Enamel Reducer for cleaning rubber. I have found it cleans it without leaving any "residue", just clean rubber.

I have used McGuires tire and wheel cleaner on tires and running boards. Leaves a very black and no sheen surface.

Awesome from the Dollar Tree and a scrub brush, finish with a pressure washer if you have it. Laquer thinner, paint thinner, mineral spirits, Prep-sol all seem to work well also.

I did a search on what Lacquer thinner does to rubber !!! What does lacquer thinner do to rubber? Due to its solvent properties, paint thinner can cause rubber materials to swell and degrade. This can lead to cracking and decreased flexibility, ultimately leading to failure. .
