Throw out bearing grease fitting
Gents, I’m trying to determine the correct size of the grease fitting for the throw out bearing shaft. My car currently doesn’t have one, just the threaded hole to accept it.
I’ve tried a 1/8” NPT fitting with no luck. Seems slightly too large in diameter. I also pulled an original one from the steering box just to confirm. No dice. Does anyone know the size of this one? Thank you in advance for any info. |

Re: Throw out bearing grease fitting
The ones I have are 1/8 pipe thread and that's what the parts book shows.

Re: Throw out bearing grease fitting
The fitting is an A-24405 with 1/8" pipe threads and an internal check valve.

Re: Throw out bearing grease fitting
Should be 1/8 NPT. You could try a different size. The auto parts supply stores have assortment boxes for sale. Try 1/4-28 or M6 or M8. Tapping the hole in situ will introduce chips where you don't want them. One other thing to try is a short 1/8 pipe nipple with a connector for the fitting.

Re: Throw out bearing grease fitting
The throwout bearing most likely is the type that will not take grease and the fitting is only there to lube the bearing collar. Why not leave it as is and just give it a few drops of heavy oil now and then?
