Default Babbit replacement

Would modern "no lead" plumbing solder work for babbit bearing repairs? Can't find new babbit locally.

No, it is too soft. There are several grades of babbitt, get the best you can buy.

Gotta order it. McMaster-Carr, or Smith & Jones Antique Auto.

i would melt the babbit out of some old rods before using regular solder of any kind for a bearing repair.

Elevator mechanics use babbit to connect the cables to the top of the car. I don't know if it's the proper grade

I believe the babbitt used in caterpillar engines is of the highest grade of currently available.

Problem is I don't have any old rods or otherwise to melt the babbit out of.

I know that the "no lead" plumbing solder is fairly hard compared to 50-50 or 60-40 solder.
