Default Help with VIN

I have a 1954 F250 with the marking plate on the glove box. I was able to locate the last 6 digits on the frame so can confirm the frame matches the VIN in the glovebox. The title I have list the VIN as L04609265. This came from the title my grandfather had when he bought the truck around 1956.

Does anyone know where that L number could have come from? I thought it might be on the engine but from what I've read online for the Y-Block, none of the identification numbers start with L.

To further clarify, the vin in the glove box matches the standard format of F25XXXXXXX so I know that is the correct VIN but I'm trying to figure out where the "L" number could have come from so I can connect the title to the truck.

I found this online but you're right, the letters don't work out.

It is exactly as posted: "L04609265" on the title. I've searched the engine as I've been told it could be the located there but have not been able to find it.

That is not the complete SERIAL NUMBER/VIN.

Show complete SERIAL NO as shown on the RATING PLATE on the glove box door minus the digits if concerned.

If you are in CA. Find the two VINs that match.
Have a statement of facts ( this stated who what where you got the car from) and a bill of sale from a family member. And have the car title fixed to match the VIN like most modern registrations and titles.
In CA it's a pain but worth it later on. In other states it seems to be something you can go to your local DMV and have the verification done and corrected.

What is stamped on the frame rail is a PARTIAL VIN.

There was no VIN (partial) used on an engine until 1968.

As mentioned, you need to have the TITLE updated.

Now are you still wondering what the L is for?

My 57, 61 have frame stamps. On the passenger side near or above the A-arm. I'd you dont see the whole thing. You might have to wide brush a little.
I believe also at the upper rear section of the frame. On a truck your have to take the bed off.
Some states also assign new numbers.

Thanks everyone, looks like I am going to have to get a bonded title to get the VIN fixed.
