Transmission Question
I've got to move my grandfather's Model T and need to push/pull it some as it does not run at this time.
What configuration of pedals and handle do I need to manipulate to get it to free wheel? John

Re: Transmission Question
The lever needs to be in the vertical position.

Re: Transmission Question
If it has been sitting for a while, the clutch disks might be sticking so the high speed may not disengage. You might have to jack the rear up and use those car dollies to move it. Even if they do disengage, Model T really don't have free wheeling, there is usually some drag in the clutch disks so may be hard to roll.

Re: Transmission Question
Pull the emergency brake lever back to where you feel it ride over the clutch release ramp. Stop there, no further and that will put it in neutral as much as possible.

Re: Transmission Question
In some of my repair books it gives instructions to adjust for a "free" neutral. Congeled oil on the transmission discs and overtightened bands thwart true ease in rolling the car and also causes creep when the cars are started cold.

Re: Transmission Question
Thank you all for the help. This should be my last time to move the car and sometime next year when all the dust of life settles, I hope to have it running. I'm glad that I have held on to the "Depot-Hack" as I helped Grandpa scavenge parts for the "T" when I was a teenager. Lots of good memories.

Re: Transmission Question
Loading the Model T worked out really well. All the kids and grandson love the cars so they pitched in and we got 3 of the 4 cars loaded by noon on Saturday. Going to finish up with the 36 Deluxe in a couple weeks and hopefully have a permanent shop to move them into by the end of summer.

Re: Transmission Question
If you are just moving it around the property yes remove the plugs to make it easier. Add a squirt of oil into the cylinders.
