600W Oil
Hey fellow 'A'ers. I am looking to find a suitable 600W oil locally for my transmission and rear end. I can get the 600W from Snyders. what would be the equivalent.

Re: 600W Oil
on Roger Kauffman's recommendation, I switched to straight STP in transmission, differential and steering box 25+ years ago.
Difficult to put into the rear axle but otherwise no problems.....

Re: 600W Oil
600W is about equal to 240 weight. Anything from 140-250 works fine.

Re: 600W Oil
O'Reilly's sells 85-140 GL4 Gear lube. Readily available, inexpensive, and it works well for Model A gears.

Re: 600W Oil
Modern 85W-140 Gear Lube, GL4 or GL5, has an additive that attaches to the metal parts, like the gears, and wears instead of the steel, thus protecting the bearing and gears from wear. GL4 should be used in transmissions that have bronze synchronizers and the GL5 should be used anywhere else, including the rear end and non synchro Model A transmissions. GL4 and GL5 have the same additive but GL5 has twice as much as GL4. Drain your lube and replace with the modern lubricant.
