Transmission Dip-Stick Mod.
Hey All,
The vendors are still out so I made my own, well two of them. The first one, I used a 6" long piece of pipe, but decided it was far to long putting the hole to far towards the door. For the second version, I went with a 3" piece of pipe which put the hole in a much more comfortable place. I made my own dipstick with bends in it so It doesn't rattle inside the tube, and wont easily rattle out. The hole made in the cap, chamfered on both sides. I added a rubber tip from an air nozzle to push into the chamfer to lock the stick in place. The rubber is extremally tight in the dip stick, again locking into place. The hole in the floorboard was shaped so the hand fits well and a funnel will rest perfectly. I can also reach down the hole to undo the drain as well. The access cover is 22 gauge steel which can be removed entirely, or one screw removed and swung out of the way. |

Nice work, indeed. I like the concept of the dip stick, but I guess I don't understand the need for it. If the transmission isn't noticeably leaking, can it lose fluid somehow without it being seen, such as past the rear bearing and down the torque tube? Just curious...

Re: Transmission Dip-Stick Mod.
The OEM dip stick for the crankcase does work, and a second inspection plate identical to the battery access will work, but your modifications are excellent.

Re: Transmission Dip-Stick Mod.
I have that on my car and it works. However, a person unfamiliar with the Model A could overfill the transmission. The original pipe plug works well too but can be hard to put oil into it from under the car.
