Re: New Focused-Beam LED Headlights
After I used those the price became unimportant.I had a very low mile car with perfect reflectors, original or very old bulbs, and just a touch of the adjusting screw would change the focus. They were probably as good as the day they were made.I could see reflective things a LONG way off.The problem was that I couldn't see a deer or bear 300 feet in front of me.I didn't care that I could see roadside delineators a half mile away,I need to see what's in front of me in real time. Not only can I see the animals now,it almost looks like somebody used a highlighter to mark the shapes. My number one reason to use them now is the low draw.

Re: New Focused-Beam LED Headlights
LEDs would last longer, don't get as hot, and probably throw more light than what you have. Original reflectors don't have to be in great shape either.

Re: New Focused-Beam LED Headlights
The doped semi-conductors are rather fragile when it comes to heat. They make enough heat to damage themselves if they are not heat sinked or have mechanical cooling for long term use. The real test on these bulbs is how long they will last in service. Flickering is likely due to the way the power is generated that feeds them so some flickering may be noticed depending on whether the car has a 3 brush generator or an alternator. Model A headlights tend to shake a bit on bumpy roads and especially if the springs & shocks are not up to snuff.
LEDs can be made to put out about any color imaginable but white is likely better when it comes to use for headlamps. The non-focus LEDs are available in white and still use the reflector in the lamp to put out the beam. The bulbs are positioned in the reflector to give a proper beam for high and low beam. This is a fairly good link for photos. http://www.gwcmodela.com/pdfs/meetin...20Upgrades.pdf |

Re: New Focused-Beam LED Headlights
I don’t rely on grounding through the bar to frame etc. I use the third wire for a ground.

Re: New Focused-Beam LED Headlights
I don't see the price going anywhere but up.When you have a product that is in demand, and can't keep with the demand, there is just no reason to drop the price.I couldn't get some a while back,(sold out). After I did get them I thought about it and bought a couple more,I'll use them, and can probably brag how I bought them when they were $50.each.

Re: New Focused-Beam LED Headlights
I got a pair, and I'm glad I did. I can drive at night without being scared.

Re: New Focused-Beam LED Headlights
Well here are stats. I used a lumens meter.
Both bulbs (before) at the 25' target = low <1 foot candle, high about 2 foot candles. The new bulbs lumens went to: 4.5 ish on low, 5 on high. Not a ton of differnece between high beams and low beams now. To the naked eye they are very different. Instead of the light looking a bit yellow on the white target, the light looks pure white now. I used my light meter to assist me in aming them. I did not adjust the focus. The amp draw change was not significant, because I did not have to adjust the brushes on the generator to maintain + at idle. Although it is very close to neutral charge at idele on high beam. The real test will be to get it out some night and drive it. I sometimes take it to some of our evening chapter meetings. Last edited by Gene F; 10-03-2022 at 06:33 PM. |
