1936 Ford Fuel Tank pickup tube
I have a stock tank and the pickup tube is tiny.
Also I keep having a fuel starvation issue to my electric pump . Can this tube be removed and replaced? What's is inside the tank where it fits in? Thanks Last edited by Dooley; 09-01-2022 at 06:04 PM. |

Re: 1836 Ford Fuel Tank pickup tube
I sure can't help you. I didn't think Ford was around in 1836. ROFLMAO (The devil made me do it.) Now, on the serious side, I doubt seriously it is the pickup tube's fault, if your tank is stock. You can disconnect the line at the tank and run a wire through it if you'd like, but I don't think that is your problem. What is the fuel output at the pump?

Changed it.lol
It’s a deal that when it works it works good but then it starves and I can see the filter before the pump and hear the pump it is dry. I don’t have the stock filler though I have a fuel door with Hagen style cap that I drilled a small hole for venting |

Are you postive it is venting? Have you tried it with the cap completely off? is it a drake tank or a original? There are street rods out there with 2 4bbl carburetors running original type tanks with no issues.

Sbc.
Stock tank I did find that my facet pump has a filter in it already. I took the filter out from between the tank and pump. I need to verify venting |

You need a 3/8" fuel line from tank to engine.Same thing happened to me in my 36 coupe with SBC & 4 bbl. I would run out of gas.Replaced the orig tank with a Drake and ran a 3/8" line all the way.I had an electric pump also.I had a vented locking gas cap.

original vent is through the gas cap. Look for the small hole.

Re: 1936 Ford Fuel Tank pickup tube
Dooley, If your 36 gas tank is stock as you indicate, it should look like the image below. Very simple syphon tube that can easily be cleaned out. A correct filler neck into the tank should have a built in vent as shown. The gas line going from the tank to the engine should be 1/4" steel tubing, copper plated.
An original setup as indicated above should have no issues, |
