Valve Stem Removal
Hey all I finally received my new tires and tubes, I purchased all new stems, liners and correct valve stem caps that are supposed to be correct, but........ The tubes came with metal stems inserted, do I just pull hard to get the stem out????? I'm afraid I'm gonna rip the new tube.
Is there a trick that would help?? Thanks |

Re: Valve Stem Removal
I am not understanding your problem, you say the tubes have metal stems, correct? Are you having trouble removing the cores? You have the cap for removing core? You will need a bridge washer, nut, then insert tube into wheel. Use baby powder inside of tire, and dish soap with tire irons. There is no pulling hard on anything. Hope this helps

Here's another vid, rubber stem to metal stem, shows you what you should have. |

If the metal stem will work for the original caps then they can be used the way they are. If they don't fit the original stem caps then there may be some reproduction stem cap that will give the appearance of an original but won't be authentic. |

Re: Valve Stem Removal
Here are some pics of the tube and the valve stem. The valve stems are NOT considered to be like the OEM stems, but in the description on the tube it sad to buy there replacement stem that is just like the originals and put them in.

Re: Valve Stem Removal
maybe try the bridge washer and nut and see if they fit the valve stem; then add the outer rim cover/caps and correct style end cap, some of which may have the incorrect threads.

Re: Valve Stem Removal
Yes they have metal stems but are not close to original style. But I bought the original style stems that they said I could swap in the tube.

Re: Valve Stem Removal
The problem here is that these metal stems are vulcanized onto the tubes and you will most likely ruin them trying to get them out. If you want to go with original stems, return these tubes and get new tubes with rubber stems that you can cut off and install your stems. Otherwise, go with these. Once mounted with your wheels and tires, you should be able to install original dust covers and caps and they would look fine.

Re: Valve Stem Removal
I think he doesn't understand that there is a metal stem cover that covers the stem he has after it goes through the rim.

Re: Valve Stem Removal
I'd be concerned about the thread diameter and pitch being the same on the lower end of those stems. If the thread is different then those tubes will only work with valve parts that fit those stems. The way the tubes are vulcanized to the metal valve stem, the tube would be destroyed in trying to remove them. If you want original valves to work, you have to buy rubber stem tubes and cut the rubber stem off for OEM valve installation. This is the way folks have been doing it for years.
A lot of the repro stuff will make misleading statements to sell the product so buyer beware. Reputable outfits will generally warn the buyer about differences between reproduction and original parts. Last edited by rotorwrench; 07-05-2022 at 10:33 AM. |
