U.S.Customs seize Malaysian tires
U.S. Customs in Baltimore recently seized hundreds of tires made in Malaysia because they did not meet highway safety standards. Tires were destined to Denver, Co. Barners should be leary of any Malaysian manufactured tires. Wayne

Re: U.S.Customs seize Malaysian tires
Guys in the tire store were talking about that.Tires are made there for lots of companies. These were supposedly Goodyears. Then again, they may have been saying that because Goodyear is in hot water over the workers in their plant there.Easy to assume another problem where there is one already.

The tires were not Goodyear. They were Roadtrack! Wayne

What was wrong with the tires is that they were missing key labeling information, not that they were unsafe to use. |

Re: U.S.Customs seize Malaysian tires
I kind of figured the guys jabbering in the tire shop automaticly came up with goodyear because of the disputes going on over there with them.Actually, lots of makers have plants over there.Toyo,Dunlop,Cooper,Lee,Continental, and Yokohama to name a few.The tire store here says a lot of the tires they sell are made there. They sometimes get tires from 3 different countries, all from one name brand. They said every brand they sell have multiple countries of orgin.

Now ya see? If ol' Henry had his way he would have grown his own rubber in Fordlandia and made his own tires.

Re: U.S.Customs seize Malaysian tires
A neighbor bought CHEAP Made in China tires for his Chevy van last winter. He was crowing about how much $$ he had saved. I don't recall the name it was some off brand thing he found on Amazon.
4 mos. later two blew out at the same time going 60 MPH down the highway. Scared the crap out of him it was all he could do to keep the van under control. Turns out the reason the tires were so cheap is because the Chinese weren't vulcanizing them, they purposely were making sh-- tires and selling them over here. They were saving money taking short cuts and 'passing' the savings onto Jerry. Why risk your life for a few dollars |

Re: U.S.Customs seize Malaysian tires
I just got a set of Goodyears. In checking them, I couldn't find any markings for max psi or gross weight limit. They are marked "Made in USA". Have driven them at highway speeds.....haven't blown up (yet?). They sure look good and I'm happy with them.

Re: U.S.Customs seize Malaysian tires
I bought a set of tires off of ebay for a modern vehicle. They were made in Thialand. I put over 20K miles on them before selling the vehicle this last spring, the tires looked like brand new, no wear that I could see at all. The tire shop said they balanced up very easy. Drove very well. Sooo, I am ALL for buying American if possible, but not all import junk is junk! I knew I would be selling the vehicle soon so just wanted cheap tires to get me by, and they ended up being much better than I expected.
