I have a stock 37 sedan with a 85hp flathead. Fan belt is short. P.N. 78-8620-A. Is this the correct part. Got it from Drake. Catalog said it was for a 37 passenger. Thanks Bruce

Make sure you have a 37 intake manifold, 37 generator and 37 pulley. I am the LAST person to say a remake part is correct, but if over the years, the intake or generator was rebuilt with a larger pulley or whatever it could cause this sort of issue. That part number looks correct to me.

Depends on what pulley is on the generator to...From smallest to largest around is 2 sizes of belts different !

Just measure it and get one 1" longer. A b54 would measure about 57".

If you locate a NOS belt of that same number, you can easily see the Drake belt is shorter. If you have the correct intake and generator pulley (3 11/16" diameter), you will be unable to get his belt to fit regardless of what you may try. If you have a later pulley (3 3/16" diameter, introduced late 1940 ) you may be able to tip the generator forward, slip the belt on and get the generator back in place. It's close, but can and has been done.

I've had the same issue with my truck. I run one too long now. Car one is way too short. I don't like the generator up so far but it works. Maybe I'll look at the car version. |
