Re: 1933 vs. 1934 Ford Frame VIN#'s locations
No, that would originally have been a frame with a V-8 engine. If it originally had been a U.S. or U.K. produced four banger, the prefix would have been "B" followed by a dash (usually), a "5", and then six digits of the specific engine's serialized production number.

Charlie,
Some of the early '33 V-8 engines produced in Dearborn did get stamped with a 40 prefix before reverting to the practice of using the 18 prefix. |

*40*306XXX*
And it's the same *306XXX* half way through the frame and again for a third time at the kick up over the rear axle. Radiator support is the 1933 two rivet each side style.

It's been noted in the past that at least SOME Australian and South African cars (built in Canada) have the numbers stamped on the RIGHT rail. DD |

Re: 1933 vs. 1934 Ford Frame VIN#'s locations
V8COOPMAN,
With respect, the Australian cars weren't built in Canada, only some of their components, most notably engine/transmission assemblies (except fours which normally came from the U.K.). The bodies were locally made. Ford South Africa received export kits from Canada and not that much was sourced locally except some assembly, but depending on the form of the kit, SKD or CKD, the frames may have not been stamped in Canada, even if manufactured there, which they were. You're correct as usual, David. What I meant to say was that Ford Australia and Ford South Africa were subsidiaries of Ford Canada. Is that a more-correct statement? DD |

Re: 1933 vs. 1934 Ford Frame VIN#'s locations
Yes, at that time all of the Ford companies in Commonwealth countries were Ford of Canada subsidiaries, except the United Kingdom. It is only in relatively recent times (late 1990s) that Ford of Canada and its remaining subsidiaries became wholly-owned by Ford U.S.
