Connect battery (and generator) to coil (-).
Connect points (through switch) to coil (+). Connect HT wire between coil and distributor cap. For negative ground, reverse coil (+/-) above. Last edited by Badpuppy; 04-05-2019 at 10:36 AM. Reason: For negative ground,,, |

and here's the simplest Model A ignition circuit ... which completely avoids ammeter and its wiring and switch and its wiring ( where short circuits or breaks could be causing problems). [PS ideally if ground is -ve then connect coil -ve to points. If ground is positive then connect coil+ve to points but it generally works OK even if coil polarity is incorrect!]

I always carry the end of an old ignition cable to screw into the distributor which makes hot wiring easy.
