Battery- Again
I'm looking for a new battery, My old size 1 does not hold a charge. The two I'm considering are the tractor supply 6 volt and the Duracell 6 volt. Both batteries have been discussed here. The Duracell is smaller and should fit easier into my battery box, however, it is only 400 cranking amps. The tractor supply battery is 700 cranking amps but it is slightly larger than the Delco battery I'm now using, and the Delco is a tight fit. Are the people here that use the Duracell battery happy with the 400 amp performance, or should I go with the tractor supply battery even though fit may be a problem

Re: Battery- Again
Always go for the highest cold cranking amps. That's one of the attractive features of an Optima (RIP). 400 amps seems inadequate to me. When I bought my truck several years ago it had a new 6V battery in it. The PO had bought a cheap one which was barely able to crank the engine. Lesson learned.

Re: Battery- Again
I purchased the Tractor Supply battery and it was exactly what I needed. I had a newly rebuilt motor that was tight, and the high cranking amps handled the load well. Great price, too.

Re: Battery- Again
Don't know which Duracell you are looking at but the group 1 looks like 640 CCA.

Re: Battery- Again
If you have a Batteries Plus Bulbs near you they have a Duracell Group 1 with 700 CCA for $82 and you get 10% off if you buy online and pick up at store. https://www.batteriesplus.com/productdetails/sli1 I have bought a couple of them for giveaways for our club.

Re: Battery- Again
Why doesn't it hold a charge ? Is there a reason ? Have you checked for a draw ? Just disconnect a battery terminal [ at the starter will work] and stick a test light between cable end and terminal. If it lights, there is a draw.

+++1 This battery works very well with more than ample CCA for a stock 6V system.. |
