Default strange device in engine compartment

My 65 comet caliente has something mounted on pass side just above heater motor ,it has two rubber vacuum lines attached and an electric plug in connector going to it . I have the car only a few months and still learning about it .don"t want to sound stupid but not sure what it is . thanks for your help.

Well, No. 1 you ain't stupid.

It may be a later style heater control valve. Just heat or AC?

Looking at owners manual there was an option that wipers would go on when you depressed the washer pedal that was by the dimmer switch. I am thinking that this is it .

Looking further , it is an interval wiper system,that was an option on 65 mercury comets

Cool option to have. Most wiper controls on Fords only had two speeds, on and off.
Before electric wipers, they were vacuum operated and so they had a built in sort of interval. They could run slower or faster depending on how much you turned the knob. Engine vacuum demands were the only glitch in the system.

The interval selection will only work when engine is running and vacuum provided.
