Yesterday I pulled the engine out of a 30 Tudor to check and reset the clearances on the rods and mains. Finished it up tonight. Check and set the valve clearances tomorrow.

I bought a non-running 1930 Phaeton last week and brought it back to life today. Runs beautifully. So much fun recommissioning a car!!

Today I disassembled the transmission tower (after building a spring keeper removal tool) and continued with the carb overhaul. Although the speedometer shows about 5000 miles, judging by the wear on the shift lever and the forks, I'm thinking that's not quite accurate.
It's a 31 Deluxe Roadster. |

I took the hood and radiator off my coupe. I found tiny cracks at the corners of the tabs where the center hinge tube goes through. There were several so I flattened them out and MIGged and ground them. I'm going to paint the coupe so everybody get ready for some paint and body work questions.

I'm rebuilding several model A water pumps to sell at the national meet swap meet in Reno next year. Nice job if you like to get really dirty.

6-21-17 Worked on getting the pesky, stuck windshield frame screws loose on my '31 AA project. With repeated soaking with Kroil one finally broke free. More body work getting the body arrow straight, a-lot of block sanding. I learned body and paint work while going to HS and college way back in the 60s and discovered then that the greater part of a really nice paint job is the preparation. This will most likely be one of my last ground-up projects, just don't seem to have the energy I had years ago. I am also teaching my coming 10 yr old grand-son what this car hobby is all about and how to do it right. We restored the coupe when he was 7, a CJ7 jeep when he was 8 and started on this 31 AA SWB last July when he was 9. This weekend we entered his '29 coupe in a local small car show, he sounded like a encyclopedia on Model As, I am proud as can be that he "Gets It" and has been this way for the last couple of years.

Did the final touches on putting Bonnie back together after putting in the correct tappets (actual solid '32 tappets) for the B cam I installed a year ago. I had the skinniest base (0.990" aftermarket adjustable) tappets riding on the B's lobes which Henry redesigned for a 1.187" base on a solid lifter. Believe me, grinding valve stems to get the right lash is pure joy.
With a full time job, she went back together slowly, and tonight, I reinstalled the front bumper, splash apron, and hood. My short wife had fun reaching over the hood with a screw driver whilst I spun the nuts on the two bolts from under the dash for the back hood bracket.

I worked on headlight/cowl light problems. Have most fixed with one to go. Main problem was the passenger headlight was very dim. I took the bucket off and removed some paint on the headlight bar for a better ground. That solved the worst of the issues. I'll try to fix the last issue tomorrow.
