Default Universal Joint Support

Was looking under a Model A I recently purchased and noticed what appears to be a bolt on collar that supports the universal joint from the frame cross member just above it. I have never seen one of these before, couldn't find it in any of the current parts catalogs. Clearly it is an aftermarket item. It is a pretty slick half collar arrangement.

It leads me to think that at some point folks thought the universal joint needed to be supported. I have never seen this before or thought there was a need for it. I would plan to remove it and not re-install.

Interested in what you can tell me about this piece and if it is needed. I do not have a picture to share.

Thanks in Advance.

Does this car have float-a-motor mounts? A support for the U-joint came with that package.
Most people did not put it on. Hope this helps. Jeff.

It might be part of the float-a-motor motor mount system...

You can see the rear yoke in the first picture..

The rear engine mount is in the second picture

In 1928 the top of the U-joint cover had a cast in hook that should be at least 1/4" above the frame lip. If it's resting on the lip then the frame is most likely bent near the rear motor mounts.
