Default Took off water pump on the 41

What are the two unused holes for with the green paint around them?

Motor mounts for early 30's chassis, and possibly some other stuff.

Just for those who don't know the little hole on the right about 2:30
is the oil hole from the timing gears that lubricates the bushing type
pumps. When installing clean both mounting surfaces good and put a
thin film of grease on both sides of the gaskets. This seals good and
allows the gasket to be reused if removal is required. DO NOT USE
thick gasket cement or silicon as it can fill the oil hole allowing no
oil to flow to the pump. This oil is not pressurized, it is only gravity
feed. When replacing pump blow compressed air through the hole
into the engine to assure it is open. In the bearing pumps the shaft
NEVER touches the bushing it runs on a thin film of oil, lubricated the
shaft or bushing never wear out. It is VERY important to ream the
bushings with a SHARP reamer maintaining about .005/.007 clearance.
Don't over tighten the belt always have about 5/8" of play on the long
area of the belt. G.M.

Thoseholes allow the '32 motor mounts to be bolted-on, as in the pic. This allows later blocks to be used as replacements in '32 Fords. These holes continued thru the end of flathead production. DD

The pic below of the later 8BA-type engines being moved along a line at the factory also indicates another reason for those four holes being incorporated thru the entire flathead production run. DD

V8: I am amazed.
How did you stuff so much knowledge into your head, including obscure info.
that just is not "out there".
Anyhow, I am glad you did as it's "just neat to know."

I have heard that they were also used again as the front mounts on a one year only basis for '53 pickups. Any truth to this?

I've also heard that story, except the other way around.......so that the little 265s would easily bolt into the '32 Fords. It's been said that Ed Cole actually had that in mind. DD

Yup.
It's where the front of the 1941 Ford anti chatter rod bolts.
One on each side.
Do Graeme and I get a prize?

NZ assembled 46-48 also employed the chatter rods.... mines got them. I don't believe they did in the US for those years. I'd be interested if Canadian 46/48 used them as our cars came from the Ford Commonwealth plant in Canada.

Coopman the bolts used to hook these up at the front are they a special specific bolt for the purpose? My car was bought as a project and I found a wierd bolt with a sort of conical step under the head, that seemed to fit and I used that. I only had one so for the other I adapted a standard type one with the same thread.
