Exclamation 1938 ford misfire

I will try to get this correct! I purchased a1938 81a 4 door deluxe ford. It had a hitch so I sent the distrubitor to bubba . I reinstalled this after noon and I would like the world to know it starts and runs great! Oh, I went back to a 6 volt battery. Thank you for a great repair bubba!!!I want to change the engine oil and not sure what to use. I was told it had 15-40?? Thanks to all!graderman

New rebuild or older engine? Old I would assume. With an older engine you could run a heaver oil if you thought it helped the oil pressure, other wise 10w-30?

new engine 10 -30 for the first 500 miles, then go to 20-50, older engine 20-50, use any name brand oil, with filter change oil every 2000 miles with out filter every 1000 miles

Any one except me, ever had a problem with the fan on a 1938 running so close to the distrubitor that it hits the coil wire boot? I have a new 52 inch fan belt and I can't get the generator/ fan up enough. What am I doing wrong?graderman

Not sure what you mean by coil wire boot. The correct distributor and coil for 38 doesn't have a coil wire. Post a picture so we can determine what you have.

I have the separate coil and a plate on to of the distrubitor. So the fan will just miss the place where the coil wire goes in but when I install the wire with the rubber boot the fan will hit it. I was told by a person to use a longer belt to raise the generator and fan. It calls for a 52 inch long belt but it isn't long enough. 53 might work! I don't know !!! Graderman

Thanks for a reply, I wonder if the black receiver from the top plate on the distrubitor is taller! I used a 90 wire and had to bring the generator up about a half of a inch. This let the fan miss the wire/boot and leaves about 3/4 of a inch from fan to under the radiator tank! Is a normal situation on a 1938 ford deluxe with the 24 stud 85 hp?? Sure would like some information. "" flat head king"" here in Maine got me to lengthen the belt. Thanks to all. Graderman

Glad you solved your problem with the coil. I would suggest that, sometime in the future, you return your system to the original type of coil. Have Skip Haney rebuild your original coil (if you have one).
