Runing lights left on and installing an alert buzzser
As the Thread submitted by Sr. Member - Phred on 3/10/15 and my note to that topic #23.
I am still in an electrical jam. I am somewhat knowledgeable in electrical circuits. The schematic that I drew up is comparable or the same as the drawing that Phred posted #19 of his Thread. BUT, it can't work using the positive grounding application and the existing ignition switch. When the vehicle is shut down the 6V coil of the relay should not be powered and it should then neutralize and the normally closed contacts complete the circuit of the tail light loop and if the lights were left on, this will complete the circuit to the alert buzzer. Checking the ignition switch wiring -0ne side of the ignition switch is hot to ground (using the test light) - turn the switch on and both sides of the switch are now open to ground. Check both sides of the engine coil and they are hot to ground (with the test light). I can't use the 6V alternator, because it will not go to ground (through the windings) when not charging like a generator will and using a diode to one side of the buzzer. I can't figure how to kill the relay coil when the engine is shut off. If, anyone has an idea, let me know on a Thread note or send me an email. Re: Runing lights left on and installing an alert buzzser
Sooo, if you used the output of an alternator, the #1 or R terminal. or a wire from the stator to a relay.....Or a generator A terminal with a diode,* when the car is running that output would open the points in the relay (energizing the relay's coil). When you turn the car off the points will close.
One side of the points will be tied to tail-lights, the other side to the buzzer to ground. When the lights are on, engine off the buzzer will sound. I wouldn't bother with it but that's me. *I don't think the diode is needed, it is more of a fuse.

Re: Runing lights left on and installing an alert buzzser
I just need the buzzer when the lights are on and the left door is open.
Here is what I set up on my roadster. Works good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it7C06vanBs |

Re: Runing lights left on and installing an alert buzzser
I had a couple of post about this subject, but Jacksonlll's solution was a winner. I have a brake switch on its way from A&L, and a radio shack buzzer waiting. This is a good solution for me.

Re: Runing lights left on and installing an alert buzzser
Thanks WillieKrash - I will look at this method. I'm not crazy about taking the alternator apart. I'll think on it. I have the relay / coil mounted and set up on the fire wall and thinking, that I could come off of the ignition switch....NG.
JacksonILL, Jr. member above - I already looked at your video - neat idea. I am going to follow through on your idea and system. I really don't have to do this project, but I just wanted to start (and I did) a new project on my "A". Most everything else on the Coupe is done. My next move is installing the shorter Pitman arm and new teflon tie rod kit. Supposed to make the steering a lot easyer. |

Why not a SIMPLE indicator light? If you want to get complicated, set up a little hammer, that POPS out & clobbers you on your BAD KNEE!!

Re: Runing lights left on and installing an alert buzzser
A battery disconnect switch mounted under the front seat would solve your problem, unless you forgot to turn it off also.....................
