Has anyone tried to make a mushroom knob from a round knob? It should be easy on a lathe as long as you have the profile.

Here are a few pictures of my attempt of making a " mushroom knob". I found the common "A" knob does not have enough size to be shaped into a mushroom knob.
I used a flathead V8 knob as a starting point, I borrowed a original mushroom knob from a fellow club member to copy. A lathe will make this job a little easier, some work was done with lathe tools but most was accomplished with files and sandpaper. The finished knob is a little flat on the top end. By adding some body filler / epoxy you could add a little more crown to the top and match the original. DSC00379 (640x318).jpg DSC00380 (640x360).jpg DSC00381 (640x360).jpg |

I still prefer the look and "feel" of the AA knob! Maybe that's because my first was an AA???
