Default Scammer

Watch out for a "dave candy" <[email protected]> He is offering Model 'A' parts for sale. He is a scammer.

I don't trust guys with hotmail or gmail accounts who are selling stuff.

Ray,
I sell model A parts sometimes and I have a hotmail account. Why would you write something like you did?

Why would anyone blame the HOTMAIL or GMAIL for scammers. That just does not make sense.
That is like saying that if one crook drove Chevrolets, all Chevrolet drivers are crooks.
I have GMAIL and I sell parts.

Rusty, my comment was prompted by two decades of business experience and transactions on the net. Much of the obvious scam/spam comes from these service providers because they can be set up from anywhere in the world and they are free accounts. Nigeria is the most frequent and common source of this kind of abuse, and we have all been approached by these guys. (A surprising number of kings and princesses have tried to give me money!) Lately a lot of them seem to come from the UK, but I suspect they are redirects.

My initial impression to offers from sellers (or buyers) with gmail and hotmail accounts is they aren't serious enough (or legitimate enough) to have an account and internet presence with an established local service provider. It's always caveat emptor on the net until you know for certain who you're dealing with, but these free accounts just raise a cautionary barrier for me. With a local service provider an IP address can be traced and the owner of an email account identified if necessary. This is impossible with gmail and hotmail accounts unless you are a law enforcement agency. At least that's how it was explained to me by my IT guy when I had my business.

I didn't mean any offense to anyone in particular here. I was speaking in a general sense from personal experience in the larger world. I'm sure all Barners are honest, upright citizens and businessmen. Except, maybe, Dave Candy.

Geez, what a dog pile. I expressed a personal opinion based on personal experience. I didn't attack anyone personally.

I need to leave this forum for a while.

WOW! What a can of worms that opened up!
I agree that you can never be too careful about online purchases. Knowing that that was the point I took no offense even though I'm a gmail account holder myself.

Never, EVER send money via any other method than Paypal when buying stuff online. Paypal, though not perfect, is the only way you can do it and still be protected from frauds like this guy.

BTW, I've checked - he is not a registered ford barn user.
