Default Fender mounted spare adjustment

Is the top bracket on the fender mounted spare tire supposed to be tight or should it be just loose enough to slide up and down in the track.

I have Firestones and if deflated a little they fit fine but I was wondering if they go in and out easier if the top bracket is allowed to slide. I see that the nut has a cotter pin and if it was meant to slide up and down rather than be tight.

I would say it should be tight. Any movement will cause rattles and wear.

see service bulletins page 508 for proper spare wheel carrier adjustment. Its not uncommon to have the flange plate installed upside down, with the two bolts down instead of up. That makes removing the wheel difficult.

Hi Guys,
Happy New Year to you all.
My A does not have the above mentioned 'top bracket', could someone please post a picture of the bracketin order for me to try and find one.

Happy New Year If you have a Snyder's catalog they show the plate and they are not expensive. Thank you all for your responses. I will have to find the service bulletin.

Thanks Ron,
I miss read your first post.
I have a complete spare carrier on my Pickup, but I thought your post implied that there was an extra part available to support the carrier in order to reduce sideways vibration of the spare.
Thanks anyway.
Regards
Chris
