Default 1951 spare tire LOCK question

wondering if the 1951 ford cars were all cars delivered with the spare tire locks> ( as shown below.) (i find it hard to believe these were "standard" because a sedan our coupe really donest require these, however a wagon or a pickup would..

obviously to install one the special lugnut that it mounts to would be and obviously the correct key.

I guess, assiming that these were "accessory" would these locks use the same keys (pattern) as the ignition and door? or were they a different "cut" (assuming that the spare lock is NOT standard per car)

thanks in advance!

I have an original "Ford Accessory" brochure in the glove compartment of my '51 that had been under the back seat since the car was new. I'll check it tomorrow.

The tire lock you have was very common.
I'm not sure when it was introduced but it could be used on any spare tire on any model as long as you used the correct lug nut where applicable.
The lock cylinder itself used the Ford/Hurd key.
It was keyed by itself; it did not match any of the other keys for the car.
I can match it to your trunk key if you would like.
I may have an extra one of the special lug nuts if you need one also.
PM me here on the Barn if you need help.

Sawzall,
The last Ford passenger cars to be built with the spare tire lock were 1939. It is unclear as to whether or not some early 1940 models had them installed at the factory.
The locks did remain an accessory for many years thereafter, 1951? I'm not sure...

I have a 1949 "Genuine Ford Accessories" catalog and there
is no spare tire lock shown.
