there's an old RESTORER magazine article about this UPS truck, all restored from original condition.

They first used the UPS moniker in 1919 but it was pretty much a west coast thing back then. That would have been the time that they started building a fleet of delivery trucks. Their color hasn't changed since.

I didn't start seeing them in western Kansas till the early 70s.

Edit as pointed out below it's probably at least 1924. I found it odd they would use a 6 year old truck when they started in 1919.

I don't remember when I first started seeing UPS trucks.For us it was,REA.I do remember when they got rid of the green and red,and went to gray trucks.It had to be in the early 70's,as I had my drivers license.I was helping my dad paint their depot in Hampton.

Green and red was Wells Fargo Express.

REA here was green with red wheels and bumpers.I only remember 2 or 3 trucks there at a time,but I remember the Emeryville single axle road tractor dropping a trailer at the door and hooking up the empty one.That was a nice looking truck.It was just a small place,I would guess just local deliveries.Nothing like the big one 10 miles away.When they went to the gray trucks they put the logo and slogan on the sides,REA,AWAY!!!.They also had a stripe,or slash on the sides angling from the bottom to the roofline of the gray trucks.I'm sure people must remember the TV ads with the announcer yelling the REA,AWAY!!! slogan at the ends of the commercials.

In the late '50's, my in-laws would ship a trunk via Railway Express from the Bronx to Rockaway for a month at a boarding house. No car, so it worked well for them.

I had a 1933 1 1/2 ton UPS truck once upon a time.

I remember when it was US post, bus service, truck freight, or rail freight depending on how large the item was. Fed X and UPS showed up about the same time in rural areas like where I grew up. There is a lot to choose from now but the prices get astronomical for next day service.

My dad's friend Bob Edwards (RIP) restored a UPS Model A in Eureka, California. The final product looked much like the one in the original post. It came from San Jose originally. I wrote an article on it for the San Francisco Model A Club back in 2011, but the website (and article) are now defunct.

The company expanded to delivering packages, merged with a competitor, and acquired its first delivery truck (a converted Ford Model T).
