Hi guys has any one read the latest issue of the restorer? I'm looking for help with the article about placing the stone guard inside the radiator shell. i started this task and mine looks different than the one in the article. i have a 31 roadster and no mention of removing the 4 rubber stand offs or the mounting tabs is mentioned. things are laying on the bench right now , i'm looking to see if anyone has done this on a 31 before i start cutting things up.any help in this is as always greatly appreciated. thamks THE HOOCH

Are you asking about these parts? I think you would just discard them.

An alternative, so as not to destroy a good guard, would be to buy some 2.5 or 3.4 # diamond or similar mesh (plaster lath, etc), or perforated metal, paint black and apply to the core front or with wire or epoxy to the shell insides. If someone discards the post 2 parts, pm me.

Pitch the rubber standoffs and cut off the brackets. The screen will stay in place because you are gluing it inside the radiator surround. I successfully installed one in our 1931 Tudor. The surround and the screen are both slightly different than for a 1930. I recommend that you cut above the wire that intersects the bottom of the peep hole for a ‘31. I cut and glued, waited the cure time and then needed to trim another inch off the frame at the top for the perfect custom fit.
