I know this has been asked before, but since I can't search this forum on my tablet i'll ask. I installed a radio in my car and didn't want to mount the antenna through the fender, I mounted a full length expanded antenna on the outside of the frame on the passengers side. On the small end I put a 10 inch length of hose and extended the antenna through the triangle floor brace. The hose keeps the mast from touching. This works great sitting still, the funny thing as I start getting up to speed the reception fades, at 60 mph you can't hear the radio. As soon as I slow reception returns, any ideas?

Thanks for the memories Greg. In the 60's we would do underbody mounts of the antennas when we were stripping chrome, filling holes and "frenching" headlights. Don't remember ever having a problem with reception. There were/are some special antennas out there. Take a look at this option: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_12044U...l-Antenna.html
Enjoy the adventure, Chap |

I've never had anything like this before thats why I asked. I converted it over to 12v neg. ground about 15 years ago so power to a antenna will not be a problem. I have a second antenna that I thought about adding, does a antenna cable splitter work.

I have the same setup as you and the reception has never been good. I put a under dash Tune trapper in and it does about the same. I have learned to just plug in the Ipod and forget about radio.
